October 2021

Miriam recently won an audition for a season-contract as Co-Principal Harpist with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. She will be joining the orchestra for the 2021/22 season.

The Gewandhausorchester Leipzig is one of the leading orchestras internationally, performing regularly in the Gewandhaus, the Leipzig Opera House, and the Thomaskirche.  Its chief conductor is Andris Nelsons; his predecessors include Felix Mendelssohn Barthoy, Bruno Walter, Kurt Masur, Herbert Blomstedt and Ricardo Chailly.

Miriam Ruf, the soloist of the evening, did not owe anything to the work, she opened its treasury and enchanted the whole hall with masterful play. Big applause for the break.

Miriam Ruf seemed to be leading the orchestra, and the delicate naturalness of her fabulous playing was a delight.

In the encore of the early romantic Louis Spohr, she once again used all the possibilities of her wonderful instrument to create a subtly designed playing.
